Well, Texas didn’t have anyone with a top 12 position in the 2010 USAMO or an Honorable Mention (more reason to get our students involved in math circle earlier and take advantage of the other great resources we have in the Dallas area). We were proud, however of the students, who did qualify for the USAMO in north Texas, many of whom have honed their skills at the Metroplex Math Circle and are young enough to compete in many future Olympiads.
USAMO Qualifiers:
- Jay Hashop grade 12 Greenhill School, Addison
- Brian Ferguson grade 10 Ferguson Homeschool, Dallas
- Hongzhi Zhao grade 10 Jasper HS, Plano
- Michael Ma grade 4 Wyatt Elementary, Plano
USAJMO Qualifiers

i remember… Mrs. Kauffman made him explain to me what a linear equation was last year and he was like WHAT I DON”T WANT TO and so then he sat down w me and wuz like “so 6 times .5 is…” and he expected me to finish it for him but i wuz like “dot dot dot” and he was like “AAARRRGGG!!!!” and getting frustrated. hey, how was i supposed to know how to multiply decimals? no one had taught me before!!!
🙂 that kid. i wuz in 4th, he wuz in 5th. as soon as he went to middle school we all were like “hooray!” and doing this dance thing chanting over and over “michael is arrogant, michael is arrogant…”
